Excellent MassagerOct 22, 2012
I replaced my old Wahl, which Id had many years, and had become loud and vibrated in one's hand roughly, with this new unit. The heat works fine, and it is not loud at all, seems great. I wasnt sure which unit to buy as there were several that were shown as Model 4196 but then there are several other units with different numbers after the 4196, some as high as $55, I called Wahl and they told me all the ones that say 4196 are basically the same unit, motor, etc, just different packaging, so I ordered this one for about $20, it came packaged in a box. I am very happy with my purchase, as is my wife who asks me to use it on her back every night.

This is the massager to buy if you're seriousDec 25, 2012
This is a professional strength massager. Don't even bother with Conair's knock-off, it's a piece of junk. My theory is, get what you really want the first time so you don't have to buy it twice. The heat takes a while to warm up and it doesn't get all that hot, but it's good for preventing the "cold stethoscope" trauma. Once the head is warmed up I turn it off.
There are so many junky massagers and vibrators out there. Some are fancy; some are quite expensive. Don't waste your time with them.

An electric, hand-held, heat therapy massager that's worth the priceNov 23, 2012
By Wood B. Hermit
"Seeker of the one pure and clear thing"
I purchased this hand-held Wahl heat therapy massager in early October 2012 and with some reservations (see below) have been satisfied with it so far.
For the approximately $20.00 price it's a worthwhile acquisition since this two-speed device with two heat settings includes four attachments to customize the massage experience (heat, facial, large surface power disc with prongs to stimulate blood flow and a spot applicator for pin-point massage), offers an ergonomic design and has a convenient 9-foot power cord.
What I personally find lacking is the relatively poor intensity of the provided heat therapy option; it also takes much too long to heat up. A previous massager (I do not recall the brand.) that I once owned years ago had built-in infrared heat technology and was a much more convincing performer in this regard.
I also think that an additional speed setting on this unit would be welcome: 3 speeds instead of the 2 now available.
Nevertheless, if some soothing cutaneous stimulation is what you seek, then this handy device might just do the trick. Feel free to purchase one for the modest price being asked and apply liberally as needed.

My neck doesn't hurt any more!!Dec 08, 2012
A persistent neck spasm was not responding to any of my normal treatments. This device (using the heating head) relaxed the problematic muscles in a matter of minutes. The heat requires some time to build (the instructions indicate four minutes) but it is well worth the wait. The effectiveness/price ratio is off the charts for this little gem. I love it.

Not very powerfulMay 03, 2013
By Maria Arce
Based on other reviews, I expected this massager to have a bit more power. That is not the case, you can probably give yourself a better massage with your own hands. It is not totally a waste. I just really expected it to be stronger.
